The Tripoli International Theater Festival aims to establish a theatrical movement in Tripoli city as well as connect the South and the North. Through this, the goal of the decentralization of culture is accomplished. In addition to this, the opening of Empire Cinema in Tripoli, which is considered the city with the largest number of cinemas in the history of Lebanon, fosters a cultural and theatrical rally and forms a permanent artistic movement.
Accordingly, the Tripoli International Theater Festival’s first edition was held in 2022, concurrently with the opening of Empire Cinema, after being closed for 28 years, thus becoming the Lebanese National Theater in Tripoli city, a free, independent, and participatory forum. The main collaborative partner in the organization of this festival is the Dutch foundation, the Stichting DOEN Foundation, in which theater performances from Algeria, Tunisia, Mexico, Iraq, Oman, Italy, Spain, and Lebanon participated. Back then, the performances were competing for best actress, best actor, best script, best scenography, best directing, and best artistic work. The jury, comprised of Spanish director Ana Cendrero Álvarez, Lebanese actor Omar Mikati, and Lebanese director Salah Atwi, recognized:
- Best Actress: Hwar Fares Ezzedine, featured in "Burning Like a Gryphon" from Kurdistan, Iraq
- Best Script: "Antigone" from Mexico
- Best Scenography: "How to Boil an Egg?" from Oman
In addition to this, the jury commended both performances, "Phobia" from Iraq and "Art of Clowning" from Italy, and secluded both awards, Best Actor and Best Artistic Work to Salah Tizani, Salah Subuh, and Abdallah Hums from Tripoli.
In hope for the Tripoli International Festival’s sustainability by implementing its second edition in 2023.
The second session of the festival was held in 2023 at the Lebanese National Theater in Tripoli, honoring artist Khaled Al Qasimi and celebrating the city as "Tripoli, the Capital of Arab Culture." The festival featured a diverse lineup of performances, including “The Boat” directed by Sharh Al-Bal Abdul Hadi from Libya; “I Smile in the Name of God” performed and directed by Mustafa Al-Hilali from Iraq; “The Sultan” written and directed by Salem Al-Mansouri from Qatar; “Waiting for the Birds” written by Carlos Pessoa and directed by Anna Palma and Herlandson Duarte from Portugal; “Hope in Life” performed and directed by Zilur Rahman John from Bangladesh and Canada; and “Reenactment Theater” by the Tiro Arts Troupe from Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria.The jury for this session included Dr. Khalifa Al-Hajri from Kuwait, actor Salah Al-Mulla from Qatar, artist Majid Al-Awfi from the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Hakimah Abu Ali from Lebanon, and festival guest of honor, artist Mohammed Al-Mansour from Kuwait.
The results of the official competition were as follows: The Best Script award went to “The Compound” by Iraqi writer Salama Al-Sakr. Muhammad Zakaria from Libya won Best Actor, and Ana Palma from Portugal received the award for Best Actress. The play “Waiting for the Birds” from Portugal was recognized with awards for Best Scenography and Best Direction. Additionally, “I Smile in the Name of God” from Iraq received a Mention Award from the jury. The award for Best Integrated Show was also given to “Waiting for the Birds” from Portugal.
The third session of the “Lebanese International Theater Festival” was held at the “Free Lebanese National Theater” in the city of Tripoli under the slogan “Greetings from Tripoli to the South” and in honor of the actor Samir Shams, with the participation of theatrical performances from Portugal, Tunisia, Algeria, the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, Italy, Palestine and Lebanon, in person and online, as part of the official competition of the festival. The play “The New World” was performed and directed by Ana Palma from Portugal, and the performance dealt with the issue of globalization, control, and the struggle of man toward freedom.
The performances at the festival competed for awards for best actor, best actress, best direction, best script, best-integrated show award, and the jury award, which included actor Omar Mikati, writer and director Salah Atwi, and artist Bahia Zayat.
The festival honored actor Aouni Al-Masry, writer Fouad Al-Adhami, and actor Salah Al-Ali.

يهدف مهرجان طرابلس المسرّحيّ الدّوليّ الى تأسيس حركة مسرحيّة في مدينة طرابلس وإقامة صلة بين الجنوب والشّمال، وبهذا يتم تحقيق هدف اللّامركزيّة الثّقافية. هذا الى جانب كون افتتاح سينما في طرابلس، التي تُعدّ أكثر مدينة تحوي صالات سينما في تاريخ لبنان، يحول دون تظاهرة ثقافيّة ومسرحيّة وتشكيل حركة مسرحيّة دائمة في طرابلس
أقيمت الدّورة الأولى من مهرجان طرابلس المسرّحيّ الدّوليّ عام ٢٠٢٢ بالتّزامن مع افتتاح سينما أمبير بعد ٢٨ عاماً على اغلاقها، لتتحول بذلك الى المسرح الوطنيّ اللّبنانيّ في مدينة طرابلس كمنصة ثقافيّة تشاركيّة حرّة ومستقلّة. نُظّم هذا المهرجان بالتّعاون مع مؤسسة دون الهولنديّة وشاركت في هذه الدّورة عروضًا مسرحيّة من الجزائر وتونس والمكسيك والعراق وسلطنة عمان وايطاليا واسبانيا ولبنان. حينها، تنافست العروض ضمن المسابقة الرسميّة على جوائز أفضل ممثّلة وأفضل ممثّل وأفضل نص وأفضل سينوغرافيا وأفضل إخراج وأفضل عمل متكامل، وذلك وفقًا لرأي لجنة التّحكيم المؤلّفة من المخرجة الاسبانية أنّا سندريرو ألفريز والممثّل عمر ميقاتي والمخرج صلاح عطوي من لبنان. جاءت النتائج كالتّالي:
- أفضل ممثّلة: هوار فارس عزالدين عن مسرحيّة "احترق كالعنقاء" من كوردستان العراق
- أفضل نص: مسرحيّة "أنتيجونا" من المكسيك
- أفضل سينوغرافيا: مسرحيّة "كيف تصنع بيضة مسلوقة؟" من سلطنة عمان
كما نوّهت لجنة التّحكيم بعرض "فوبيا" من العراق وعرض "فنّ التّهريج "من ايطاليا، وحُجبت جائزة أفضل ممثّل وأفضل عمل متكامل. وكرمت هذه الدوة الفنانين صلاح تيزاني وصلاح صبح وعبدالله حمصي من طرابلس
اقمت الدورة الثانية عام 2023 في المسرح الوطني اللبناني في طرابلس تحية الى الفنان خالد القاسمي، وتحت شعار "طرابلس عاصمة للثقافة العربية". وعرضت في المهرجان مسرحية “المركب” إخراج شرح البال عبد الهادي من ليبيا، و"ابصم بسم الله "اداء واخراج مصطفى الهلالي من العراق، و"السلطان" تأليف إخراج سالم المنصوري من قطر، و"بانتظار الطّيور" تأليف كارلوس بيسوا وإخراج آنا بالما وهيرلاندسون دوارتي من البرتغال، و"أمل في الحياة" أداء وإخراج زيلور الرّحمن جون من بنجلاديش وكندا، و"مسرح إعادة تمثيل" لفرقة تيرو للفنون من لبنان وفلسطين وسورية . وضمت لجنة التحكيم كل من الدكتور خليفة الهاجري من الكويت، والممثل صلاح الملا من قطر، والفنان ماجد العوفي من سلطنة عمان، والدكتورة حاكمة أبوعلي من لبنان ، وضيف شرف المهرجان الفنان محمد المنصور من الكويت. كما واقيمت على هامش المهرجان ورش تدريبية للأطفال بعنوان "بناة القصّة" تدريب آنا دياس من مسرح دا جراجيم من البرتغال، وعقدت ندوات شاركت فيها الدكتورة جنى الحسن والمخرج صلاح عطوي والممثل عمر ميقاتي
وأقيمت الدورة الثالثة من «مهرجان لبنان المسرحي الدولي» في «المسرح الوطنيّ اللّبنانيّ المجاني» في مدينة طرابلس تحت شعار تحية من طرابلس الى الجنوب وتكريماً للممثل سمير شمص، وبمشاركة عروض مسرحية من البرتغال وتونس والجزائر وسلطنة عمان والبحرين وإيطاليا وفلسطين ولبنان حضورياً وعبر الإنترنت ضمن المسابقة الرسمية للمهرجان ، وعرضت مسرحية "العالم الجديد" اداء واخراج أنا بالما من البرتغال وتناول العرض قضية العولمة والسيطرة وصراع الإنسان نحو الحرية
وتنافست العروض في المهرجان على جوائز أفضل ممثل وأفضل ممثلة وأفضل إخراج وأفضل نص وجائزة أفضل عرض متكامل وجائزة لجنة التحكيم والتي ضمت كل من الممثل عمر ميقاتي والكاتب والمخرج صلاح عطوي والفنانة بهية زيات .
